Left My Heart in Washington State…

Ahh. There is something so incredibly refreshing about the crisp, cool, foggy mornings of Washington State. I was lucky enough to visit at a time in which the weather was absolutely and utterly perfect. Low 60’s in the mornings with a dreamy fog that would break around 10:30 every morning, sunny 70’s in the early afternoon, a non-humid 80’s in the late afternoon, and right back down to the low 70’s in the evening.

Four generations of family (one just happens to be in my belly…)!

And the constant smell of the sea hanging in the air – glorious. What I loved most of all though, was the backdrop of the mountains against the blues of the sky. As soon as that morning fog began to thin, you could see the beauty of Mt. Rainier breaking through, bright and clear and dominant.

I love Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley that I am lucky enough to live in, but there is something so invigorating and mysterious about the Northwest. And with the beloved family that I get to see so rarely now thousands of miles away, I think a big piece of my heart remains in Washington.

With the picturesque landscape and sweeping sea still in my mind, I thought I’d throw together a space inspired by nautical living…

…and crisp neutrals, natural textures, and pops of blues and corals give this space just the right touch!

Bad news: I got the first cold of the season, and it was a nasty little bug.

Good news: I’m getting it out of the way early!

Well, a couple of days down, and I’m back up and semi-ready to go. But this gorgeous day gives me that extra little bit of motivation that I need!

A few of other things that are exciting me this week:

1. I finally ordered MMS Milk Paint and am expecting it any day now!

2. Mums + pumpkins = the perfect October.

3. Football + parents in town = the perfect October weekend.

4. Scarf weather!

It’s the little things that count, right?

The Best News: As of yesterday, Zara Home has officially launched in the U.S., and just in time for the holidays! Oh, how I have dreamed of this day.

For years, I have come across products from Zara Home that I have absolutely adored, only to discover that I couldn’t quite get my hands on them without a quick trip over the ocean. Well, no longer will my frustrations get the better of me – Zara Home is here and here to stay!

Here are just a few of my favorite products:

I must be on a bit of a gold kick.

There is free shipping through October so you better get shopping!

I stumbled across the work of David and Libby Nightingale a couple of years ago when searching for photographers for my own wedding and immediately fell in love. But in the midst of wedding planning, buying a home, moving to a new city, etc. these amazing artist became buried in the back of my mind and soon forgotten.

Only recently did they pop back in my head as I continue browsing for that perfect piece of art to hang in my living room, and as I arrived on their site, I remembered exactly why I fell in love with them in the first place – the only word that comes to mind is BREATHTAKING. I will leave you to make your own opinion…

The final picture above is my absolute favorite. The background, the style, the expression – how can you not smile the moment you set eyes on it?! I can imagine this old man throwing quite the party for all his old buds; a few apps, some bloody Marys, and a healthy competition of Venetian solitaire…

You can purchase prints of David and Libby Nightingale here. Simply click on any image and you will see the “buy print” link. For me, I think my search for the perfect piece is over!

Have a great weekend ya’ll!

In honor of today, I’ve thrown together an Independence Day inspired glam interior for your viewing pleasure…

Glam 4th of July Cocktail Party

Unfortunately – or perhaps fortunately – I will be celebrating the day in a much less glam but perhaps more entertaining manner! Yeah, I’m more of a outdoor bbq, corn and kabob kind of gal. While I’d be all over that red champagne above (yum!), I’d be just as happy with an ice cold beer in hand. This is my kind of style…

And with that said, let me get on to the celebrations! Be safe, enjoy – and HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY YA’LL! Cheers.
